Equipment

I learned the fundamentals of photography using an SLR camera and developing with traditional darkroom techniques. Now, I shoot exclusively with a digital SLR and utilize digital technologies for processing. I believe strongly in utilizing technology as a tool to enhance the natural beauty of an image while staying true to its original character. Every so often it’s fun to explore what technology can do, but by in large I prefer to keep it as natural as possible.

I started shooting with the Nikon D80 in 2008 and ultimately upgraded to the full-frame D610. I use a Nikkor 24-120mm lens and a Nikkor 70-300mm zoom lens, depending on the situation. My camera bag consists of a circular polarizer, UV filter, spare memory cards, spare battery, cable release, shutter release remote, cleaning solution and cloth, and pocket size flashlight (compliments of my Grandad who believed no one should ever be without a flashlight). For low light situations, I use a Manfrotto 190x tripod with a ball head mount and sliding quick shoe.

My digital darkroom consists of an iMac, Adobe Photoshop, and an Epson Stylus R1900 photo printer.
